Randomness

Amie says I should post a blog. Well, Amie's the only one that is following this blog, so I'll start with something I've been meaning to do for facebook... just for laughs...

The theory is that you post 25 random things about yourself in a facebook Note, and then you tag 25 people and then they're supposed to do the same thing. Nobody has tagged me, but hey, it sounds like a fun thing to do on a day when I'm home sick and bored.

1. The "A" key on my laptop seems to be randomly not working as well as the others.

2. I had my first child at 16, my second at 23, my 3rd at 24. I got my bachelor's degree at 27, my master's at 30.

3. I should have separated that out, it would have been 5 random things and I wouldn't have to think of as many.

4. I was in a car accident when I was 20 and broke my pelvis in 5 places, my arm, and my ankle. I got a helicopter ride, not that I remember it.

5. About the only permanent reminder I have of that accident is that my arm aches sometimes when it's cold.

6. Sometimes I wonder if the people I went to high school with would recognize me at all now. Sometimes, I wonder if I've changed a bit since then.

7. Between us, my husband and I have 7 kids and 2 grandkids.

8. My worst irrational fear is having water up over my head. I can swim, I just hate having water up over my head. Shudder.

9. I'm definately NOT a dog person. So why are all 3 of them staring at me??

10. I'm named after my grandmothers: Minnie Marie, and Pauleva Pearl. My parents joked that they should have named me Minnie Pearl.

11. I'm still not sure who Minnie Pearl is, other than that she wore price tags on her hat.

12. Now that I'm an adult, I think Pauleva is one of the prettiest names I've heard. I'm glad I didn't have to grow up with it, though.

13. I'm still not sure what I want to be when I grow up. I get a rush from programming, but it seems somehow that programming just can't be all that there is for me to do.

14. I really enjoy being a college professor part-time, but this quarter not teaching has been kind of fun to have evenings to myself.

15. I've taught Middle School Sunday School for 11 full years and part of the year before that. I'm thinking about "retiring" after the end of this year.

16. Someday, I want to go back to martial arts. I know that at this point I'd have to start all over again, but I still want to do it.

17. Someday, I want to travel. A lot. I have the "1001 things to see in the USA before you die" book and I want to see most of them (some of them look really boring).

18. I've been out of the U.S. three (3) times in my entire life. The first time I was in 4th grade and we went on a cruise as an extended family, and we spent like half an hour in the Bahamas which technically isn't the US so it counts. The second time we spent an afternoon in the Canadian half of Glacier National Park. The third time, my hubby took me to dinner in Canada. Literally, to dinner.

19. Someday, I want to travel to all kinds of foreign places and learn all about them.

20. The problem with all my "Someday I want to..." 's is that I would have to become a bazillionaire AND live to be at least 1000 to be able to do them all.

21. Another problem with all my travel dreams is that I can't learn foreign languages for anything.

22. Speaking of foreign languages, I took Hebrew in college. I had this insane idea that since I was a Religious Studies major, it would be great to read documents in their original Hebrew.

23. My Hebrew professor passed me only because he felt sorry for me for being the only Gentile in the class.

24. I don't read a whole lot of fiction any more because when I do, I get totally lost in the book. I don't hear anything going on around me, and I have no idea what time it is or even that there is a world outside of the book. Even if it's a lousy book.

25. I'm the middle generation in 5 living generations. That feels sort of weird. I feel old, but not that old... and I feel way too young to be the "middle" generation of 5...
